IPL is becoming a tournament that is unhealthy for players

The Indian Premier League (IPL), which attracts cricketers from all over the world with its glittering money, is becoming a tournament that is harmful to the health of the players.

The British organization ‘BASIS’ has identified weather conditions and polluted environment during the IPL in its report on the impact of climate change on cricket.

The organization has also collected data regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL), which has been received by Geo News. In the report, the environment during the PSL has been described as better than the IPL.

According to the British organization’s report, the environmental atmosphere during the IPL matches held in 2025 was not encouraging, on the contrary, the data on weather conditions during the PSL matches shows that the environment during the PSL was better than the IPL.

According to the report, most of the IPL matches were held in the hottest weather, which is harmful to the players.

The report provides data on the temperature during the 65 matches of IPL 2025, according to which only 9 matches in IPL 2025 were played at a temperature below 26.7 degrees Celsius, during 20 matches the temperature was 29 to 32 degrees Celsius, which could have been unsuitable for the players, while in 27 IPL matches the temperature was 32 to 39, which was extremely worrying.

The report stated that in extremely worrying conditions, players are at risk of sunstroke and cramps, while in 9 matches the temperature was 39 to 51 degrees Celsius, which was a dangerous environment for the players.

The British organization stated in its report that in the PSL held in India’s neighboring country Pakistan on the same dates, 17 matches were played at a temperature below 26 degrees Celsius.

The report stated that in PSL 2025, the temperature was extremely worrying during only 2 matches. The temperature in the Multan-Quetta match in Rawalpindi on the afternoon of May 18 was 32.4, while the temperature in the eliminator between Islamabad and Lahore on May 23 in Lahore was 33.1. During 15 matches during PSL 2025, the temperature was 26.7 to 32.2, which has been declared as general concern.

The report also points out the air quality index during IPL matches.

During the 2025 IPL, not a single match was held in a non-polluted environment. Half of the 75 matches were played in substandard environments under the AQI index. Not a single match was held in an AQI index of 50, which is a healthy environment. 35 matches were held in an AQI of 51 to 100, which was a moderate atmosphere.

34 matches were held in an AQI of 100 to 150, which was a poor atmosphere. During 5 matches, the air quality index was between 150 and 200, which was an unhealthy environment for the players.
