Karachi Kings captain David Warner took a light-hearted dig at Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Karachi Kings won by 4 wickets in a thrilling match played at the Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday night. After the match, Warner praised his team’s victory and also made fun of Shaheen’s prediction about the pitch.
“Shaheen had said that the pitch would spin but not a single ball has spun here in three matches. I was surprised by what he said,” Warner said with a smile.
The match was limited to 15 overs due to rain, in which Lahore Qalandars scored 160 runs. Openers Mohammad Naeem and Fakhar Zaman batted brilliantly, scoring 65 off 29 balls and 51 off 33 balls respectively.
Karachi Kings achieved the revised target of 168 runs with three balls to spare. Young batsman Irfan Khan Niazi played a brilliant unbeaten innings of 48 runs to lead his team to victory.
Lahore relied on spinners considering the spin conditions, but Warner kept faith in the fast bowlers, which worked in their favor.
Warner said, “We did not change our strategy and the bowlers did a great job. Now there is no room for more spinners in the team.”
Warner also praised Irfan Khan Niazi’s innings and said, “It was a great win. Irfan’s innings gave us the victory. We had faith in him, and he showed his class today.”
After this success, Karachi Kings have moved to third place on the PSL 10 points table with 10 points, having won five out of eight matches.
Karachi Kings will play their next matches against Peshawar Zalmi on May 8 and Islamabad United on May 10 in Rawalpindi.
